Bath
is a city in Somerset, England most famous for its historic
baths fed by three hot springs. The
city is founded around the only naturally occurring hot
springs in the United Kingdom. It was first documented as
a Roman spa, although tradition suggests that it was founded
earlier. The waters from its spring were believed to be
a cure for many afflictions. From Elizabethan to Georgian
times it was a resort city for the wealthy. As a result
of its popularity during the latter period, the city contains
many fine examples of Georgian architecture, most notably
the Royal Crescent. The city has a population of over 90,144
and is a World Heritage Site. |

The Royal Hotel has a a great tradition of providing
hospitality for over 150 years. Within walking
distance of all of Bath's leading attractions.
The Royal specialises in short breaks - its
central location and friendly, informal atmosphere
makes it a perfect location for a short holiday
in the lovely City of Bath. This decidedly Georgian
looking hotel was built by Isambard Kingdom
Brunel, the famous English architect of the
time, for the arrival of the railway in Victorian
times and the 'Royal' prefix was given as a
reminder of Queen Victoria's visit to the City
of Bath. The Royal commenced trading in 1846.
The original name was the Royal Station Hotel
and because of the growing influence of rail
travel and its close proximity to the station
in 1852, an upper level footbridge was built
directly linking the first floor of the hotel
with the station platforms for the convenience
of hotel guests. This footbridge remained until
1936. The Royal has changed ownership a number
of times during its nearly 150 years of history
and in March 1995, PR Inns acquired the business.
'PR' is a small private company, wholly owned
by its two partners who are highly experienced
hoteliers and restaurateurs. They are committed
to continually improving both the physical aspects
of the hotel and the standards of service, food
and hospitality to ensure that guests have a
comfortable and enjoyable visit, which will
be repeated many times.
